The group game of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will start the tournament on Friday, November 18th and it will go on all the way until December 2nd. A victory in a World Cup match gives the team three important points, while a loss gives no points at all. If the match ends with a draw the points will be split, giving both teams one point in the table. The teams in the first and second positions in all of the eight groups will then advance to the play-off.

It is not uncommon for two teams in a World Cup group to end up with the same amount of points. In order to find out which team will qualify to advance in the tournament, we need to look at the goal difference instead of points, where the team with the best score will be placed at the top of the table. If this number would happen to be the same as well then it is the team which scored the most goals in the matches that will advance. After that the singles match between the two teams is scrutinized, where the team who won ranks the highest.

If more than two teams end up with the same amount of points then we look at the points and goal difference in the matches between the teams involved in order to separate them.

Seeding groups in preparation for the World Cup Draw

Bowl 4: Nigeria, Japan, Morocco, Panama, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Serbia

One team from each bowl will form a World Cup group, which means that teams from completely different parts of the World will be facing each other. As Europe has plenty of participating countries it can happen that several European teams will end up in the same group, but there is a rule that limits the amount to two European teams per group.

The teams will not only be drawn into the respective groups but their position in the group will be drawn as well, which in turn decides which matches they will play in the game schedule.
